At the University of Florida, the Young Democratic Socialists of America are organizing for working class power.

Founded in 2021, but with a legacy going back to 2016, YDSA is a transformative part of a nation-wide movement to transform the United States into a democratic socialist society.

We believe that democracy is key and seek to expand it in all areas of life, social, political, and economic. Our theory of change is predicated on the ability of the working class to join together in order to fight back against the rich and wealthy, to take what's rightfully ours, and to secure a better future for all.

As the largest leftist organization on campus, we make it our main goal to organize and mobilize students to obtain material objectives for those in our communities. Climate change, wealth inequality, food insecurity, attacks on minorities, and other problems brought forth by capitalism don't idle and wait for us to take action.

The Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) is the youth section of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

As the youth section, we are comprised of chapters found in colleges, universities, and even high schools! Here at the UF chapter, we fight to make tangible and lasting change in our campus and in the Gainesville community.

We believe that not only a better Gainesville is possible, but a better world is too!

Our Sanctuary Campaign

As part of YDSA National's Sanctuary Campus Campaign, the UF YDSA Chapter is organizing a campaign against immigration enforcement on campus.

After the sudden and unjust deportation of UF International Student Felipe Zapata Vasquez last Spring, it became clear that ICE is a threat to student life, especially as UFPD voluntarily signed a 287(g) agreement soon after.

Our campaign demands that UFPD end its 287(g) agreement, and that UF admin provides services to protect its international and immigrant students. Currently we are petitioning admin with a list of demands, viewable below on our petition website.
